Title Birth Graphic Novel
Publisher Name: Alterna Comics ( http://www.alternacomics.com/ )
Writer: Michael S Bracco
Art: Michael S Bracco
9.95, 88 pages, Black & White
Safety Content Label: T+ TEENS AND UP - Appropriate for most readers 13 and up, parents are advised that they might want to read before or with younger children.
Publishers Blurb:
Two doomed alien species, the Aquans and Terans, are at the brink of extinction; blaming each other for their shortcomings and waging war in the process. Michael S. Bracco depicts a powerful tale of hate, love, desperation, and the choices that can lead to change.
Reviewer Comments:
BIRTH is a wonderful little break from the average comic. A tale with very few words, it is poignant all the same. A tale of two alien races with the all too human failings of misanthropy, hatred, and misplaced aggressions, this book is a tragic delight. It goes well beyond the two empires at war shtick of your average tale, while making it smaller scale and far more personable. We see the two races hatred on the grand and faceless scale, and we see it again on the much more intimate level of two lovers, who, when faced with great duress, can’t quite escape the ingrained biases of their cultures.
With brilliant yet simple artwork that is a marriage of Rick Geary and Roman Dirge style line art, the tale is both moving and captivating.
This latest release gives up a glimpse at NOVO, the sequel to this tale, and the last (seemingly doomed) chance for the survival of the two races.
A light read of some heavy concepts, BIRTH is well worth checking out.
