Reviewer Comments:
Jesus Hates Zombies:TSJB is a collection of short stories centered around one central theme....Jesus Hates Zombies! These stories weave together a simple plot that relies a lot on shock value, a little humor, and a lot of artistic diversity. The title itself will draw you in from the first issue on, just to find out what the f&@! were these people thinking? I found myself not knowing what to make of this series while reading the first few stories, however there was undoubtedly a certain charm throughout that kept me interested all the way until the final pages. This charm shows itself the most after the introduction of a certain lovable supporting character, at this point the series hits its peak and from there on has its highs and lows.

The stories vary from all out gore fests, to more subtle and introspective gore fest's which dwell a little on the personal side of Jesus as he hacks through zombies. At first glance you may believe the title would be stocked full of humor, and while there are many attempts, most gags seem to fall into the category of the straight faced "Well that was kind of funny". The title settles more for shock value, and the gimmick of Jesus the zombie slayer holds up pretty well throughout all the varied stories. The language in the series will shoot out at you right away, and very well may offend a lot of people just by showing Jesus throwing the F bomb while he slices a zombie's throat or bashes a head open with a baseball bat. Even I found myself a little put back by this, but it really served to keep my interest in the book just to see how far they were willing to go.

The art work really lends itself well to the series; you'll often keep reading just to see how the different artists tackle the subject. The varied character designs for Jesus himself help to keep the look and feel of the series fresh as you see Jesus going from the long haired hippy, to the stoic hero archetype, all the way to Jesus the post apocalyptic road warrior. All the character designs are really fun, and add charm and artistic flavor to the title while keeping it from becoming a one trick pony beating a dead horse with a stick (or baseball bat). That variation in art style really comes into play towards the end of this title, when you are treated to segment of different artists tackling the same script. This should be very interesting to anybody who's interested in the comic making process, specifically the process of choosing different artists and art styles for specific titles.

All in all, Jesus Hates Zombies is a surprisingly charming title. With all the varied artwork and quirky stories most people are bound to find at least one thing to satisfy them. However, this isn't for the faint of heart or those who are offended easily. If you find yourself disgusted by the concept I suggest you leave this title alone, for the rest of you I'd suggest at least giving it a quick browse to see if it's your cup of tea before you decide to purchase. Jesus loves you, unless your a zombie.
