Is Tony Stark an asshole?

Okay here's the on-going debate a few of us were having around "The Ole Water Cooler".
Is Tony Stark an a--hole? Folks are claiming he only became one recently. Which I disagree. They claim that because Tony donated the mansion and tower to the Avengers, Paid Avengers Wages, and has saved the world numerous times he is not an asshole. But because of Civil War, Illumanti, and now...he is an asshole. But he use to not be. I disagree because I know of a few things he's done before.
~ He lied to his friends, including Captain America, numerous times. Some of those might be overlookable, but some of them are not.
~ He is a manipulative womanizer. Sure the women come to him most of the time, doesn't make it right. Ontop of that he did use his influence as Iron Man to get Wasp to date Tony. Which when she found out she was pissed about.

I know there are others. So what other things has Tony Stark done that are deeds which deem him a asshole? Only Pre-Civil War please. Overlook any that weren't really his fault. Like his suit killing because it was being controlled by someone else, etc.

Sometimes, one has to make hard choices if he believes those choices will do some good for everyone. That's what's happening with Stark. Someone had to stand front and make the hard choices and Stark assumed that role.

Ugh. I am not talking about what is currently going on with him being Director of Shield or sending Hulk into space, or the Civil War. I'm talking about before all that.

I think his most despicable act was how he used Peter for his own agenda and convinced him to unmask knowing the whole time how this guys life would totally end up in the crapper the moment he did this. In essence he is to blame for what happened to Aunt May.
