There is word from DC comics that Dan Didio said in July of this yearthat Barry will appear in the final crisis as the new flash. Bite it Wally fans!

I thought, the way they set it up, that Barry was coming back in the Lightning Saga, not Wally-- in fact, even Batman said something like "I was expecting someone else." I've heard some rumblings of Geoff Johns/Ethan Van Scriver doing a Barry Allen: Rebirth. I didn't hear about the final crisis thing, but i guess I have now.

At this point I have to wonder why. I mean, they upgraded Bart and then just killed him off after one year to make way for Wally to come back... now Barry? I like Barry as much as the next guy... but Wally's had a good 20+ years to establish himself as the Flash, and now "The Flash" has a strong vibe of legacy to it-- so taking Wally out and putting Barry back in at this point (especially with what's been going on over the last couple years with the character), just doesn't sit well with me.

I hope I'm proved wrong, I hope they can pull it off. I'd like to see Barry back in action, though frankly, I'd dig it more in a JLA: Classified kinda way... Or if they have to bring him back to the current time, then keep Wally, and give em each their own books-- The Lantern's have two books... why not the speedsters?

The worst scenario possible? They bring back Barry and Wally takes on some OTHER speedster mantle (Wally West, the new Max Mercury, or some garbage like that). I could see that happening, but thinking about it makes me cringe!

My Edit: I read something on another thread and I realized something I left out (credit to Pete26): Barry's sacrifice, and how bringing him back might cheapen that. In fact, Barry is pretty much one of the only examples of DC killing a major character without bringing them back (depending one what happens with Batman: RIP, that is). It was a huge sacrifice and a pretty momentous thing... it would kind of cheapen it to bring him back to cash in on it.

I guess we'll just see....
