I've been reading Mighty Avengers and it's a decent read, nothing spectacular though. How is New Avengers?

Kind of late coming into this, but New Avengers is decent. I like my fair share of Doctor Strange and Hawk Eye. Plus Wolverine always adds for some fun drama. Regardless decent story so far...though I think now everythings changed. Stopped reading mid way through the Skrull invasion just due to lack of funds. That and reading all the comics Seb sends me, lol. Still guess I should play catch up with my next pay check. XD

I stopped reading it at the start but give up on it. Wolverine is in to many groups and comics now. I get his series and thats enough. And without Captain America it just didn't seem like the Avengers. I like Spider-Woman which was why I picked it up in the first place. But it changed to much so I cancelled getting it.

I read both Mighty and New Avengers and actually tend to like the New Avengers better.... right now everything is a little wonky following Secret Invasion, but New Avengers is a bit more character driven while Mighty Avengers is more smash 'em up action. Good for different reasons.

As for the Wolverine comment, if you read the Dark Avengers you'll get even more doses of ol' Wolvie, but not as you may expect. ;) No spoilers from me!

I've trimmed my Marvel reads considerably in recent months - actually I've trimmed a LOT since I do more writing than reading any longer, but the Avengers books are still on my pull list.

Ok, so New Avengers #50 is the first issue I've read of New Avengers and I actually liked it. Shows what my LCS guy knows, he'd been discouraging me from getting the title for a while now because he said it sucked.

Anyway, looks like Captain America, Spiderman, Luke Cage, Spider-Woman, Ronin (who I had no idea was Hawkeye before I read this issue), Ms. Marvel, Iron Fist, Wolverine and Jessica Jones make up this new team of Avengers, fighting against Osborn and his Dark Avengers.

I didn't think having Spiderman on the team would work as he's more of a loner, but his wise crackin' quips are great and he seems at home at being an Avenger. How long this will last is another story. He's been in the Fantastic Four before and I think the X-Men too, but he never stays around long.

Wolverine being on the team is interesting as well, since it looks like he's going to have to face off against his son who is on Osborne's team of Avengers.

There is a lot of personality to the team and even though I was sad to see Steve Rogers go, I think this Bucky version of Captain America seems pretty cool in his own right.

I might even go so far as to say I liked New Avengers better than Mighty Avengers. It reminds me of the West Coast Avengers which I was an avid reader of until it got discontinued. Why does that always happen to comics I like?

Anyway, nothing of substance really happened in this issue but we get to see the Avengers beat the crap out of some bad guys and Clint Barton throws down the gauntlet and tells the media that Osborne is a bad guy and basically that the real Avengers are going to fight against him.

I will never, ever, ever understand that. Why the hell would you encourage somebody not to buy something in your business? I can appreciate trying to maintain good-will with your customers, so you direct them towards something you think they will like, but to come outright and say something sucks and they shouldn't buy it? It's just ridiculous.

When I was running my store, I never did that, and it failed anyway. If this guy is working in a successful comic store, you have to wonder just how much more successful it could be?

To make it even worse, we're talking about one of the best selling comics out there. If it was something marginal, I could maybe forgive it more, but this is one of those powerhouse comics that a store needs.

Yeah, well whatever works for you I guess. I don't think the shop makes much money though. He's always complaining about the place, which is weird to me, because that's exactly what I'd love to be doing when I retire from the Army. Just me sitting around a comic book store all day reading comics! Now that would be great!

It was absolutely awesome. The guy is only shooting himself in the foot. :(

My former assistant manager at work had a comic book store that he closed down out of 1) fear of the impending recession and 2) his family pushing to move...he regrets the HECK out of that, and I do too, because 1) he ran a great shop and 2) it would have been a wonderful local avenue to get my own comics pushed...=P

Back on topic, I started getting New Avengers because Captain America joined the team...I generally enjoy it, almost as much for what is being done with Clint Barton as anything else. Far from my favorite title, but good nonetheless.
