see, i was excited about this when i heard it was coming. i've LONG been a huge fan of Kandor and hoped one day they'd bring it back and expand that thing to the right size and put em on a world somewhere so they could be a people again instead of bugs under glass. and so far i've liked the story...but only so far. it seems that Superman is just looking for any excuse he can find to bring them down, particularly Alura and Zod. i'd bet money there's a behind the scenes affair between them in the offing somewhere that ends up in a cat fight with Ursa and Alura. heheh ok maybe that's my guy fantasy talking but still. it could happen.

what i'm tired of is whiny Superman. first off, they end up saying in the newest Action Comics how they negate his powers and among them he's just a normal guy.

well i call bullshit! Superman has had DECADES with his powers. these goofs have had them for what, a few weeks maybe? there's no way they have the mastery over their powers that he does. Superman should be able to take down any group of Kryptonians five or less without any problem. but instead he's a little whiner. "oh please don't let Zod out!" shut it! kick his ass! drop the hammer on them! by rights he should RULE New Krypton! instead he lets his bitchy aunt run all over him.

we need Batman back if only to deliver a much needed kick to Superman's ass!

The cool thing about New Krypton is that everyone on earth expected the kryptonians to all be Superman. But the reality of it is that being kryptonian does not make Superman who he is, it just lends him his powers under a yellow sun. So its kind of a cool idea where they put Superman against a backdrop of "supermen" and yet he's still the only SUPERMAN.

The whinyness gets to me too. I think they might be taking the "diplomatic" side of things a bit too far-- But I think they're just trying make a reason for NK to be around for a while, to get some mileage out of it, even with Zod controlling the military and whatnot, vs some epic battle right away that does away with NK altogether.

I have to agree about the powers. A) I'm not sure if this is true under the current continuity, but Supes SHOULD be more powerful as he's absorbed WAY more yellow sun rays than the people of NK. B) like you said, he's had a lifetime to hone and master his powers and the skills that go along with them.

I can see his experience counting towards him being a better fighter than your average New Kryptonian, but I think his power level shouldn't be any higher than anyone else's there.

If you charge a battery, for a day or for a week, it's only going to charge to full capacity, ya know? I mean being "on the charger longer" shouldn't make him any more powerful than them, if they've reached full capacity already. How long does it take to "charge up a Kryptonian" frm a yellow sun anyway?

Well, at one point I believe they used an explanation that he continually gets more and more powerful over time living under a yellow sun.

He only gets his powers over time, and they only fully mature by the time he's an adult because they increase over time under the yellow sun. You know... the reason why ma and pa kent weren't ripped to shreds during a two year old temper tantrum.

I'm not sure what era that explanation comes from. I'm thinking John Byrne's '86 reboot. There was no superboy involved with that, and I remember in Man of Steel he discovered his flight as an adult one day when he walked off a cliff or something...

Buuut i dont think they follow that anymore. Note that when superman went to the 31st century recently (For Supes and Legion, not Legion of three worlds) and earth was under a Red sun, he's powers were lost immediately (good thing he used his HAND to try and stop that bullet!).... If what i had said was true, his powers would not have faded so fast! Also, when he went to bizarro world and was immediately able utilize the blue sun to transfer his powers.

yeah he's able to store up a certain amount these days, which lends credence to the whole gaining more with more exposure theory. seems to me the NK folks should still be lower tier on the power scale. also, look back at Supergirl. her powers were fully active when she popped out of the pod because it acted as a solar lens and focused the rays of the yellow sun on her on approach to Earth, for like years. these new K people shouldn't be nearly tough enough.

so...the answer here is either Supes is a whiny douche and needs to get the floor mopped with his ass, or...he's faking it so that when he DOES drop the hammer they're caught off guard. i hope it's the latter...but so far my confidence level is not high!

Why do you guys have no problem accepting the man comes from another planet where everyone LOOKS human but gets godlike powers from a yellow sun, and then quibble over how his recharge abilities work?

I used to throw people out of my comic store for having debates like this one.

oh please. this hasn't even gotten good yet. wait till we start in on who the coolest sidekick in comics history is...or how Batman would own every single so called "hero" in the Marvel Universe!

heh.

but seriously. what's your problem with kryptonians? they look just like Daxamites, or Thanagarians, or...pretty much any one of like fifty other races in the DCU. blame the creator pal don't blame the fanboy!

He's dead Jim. Errr well not dead exactly, but he won't be "owning" anyone anytime in the near future. :p

I'm not sure why everyone seems to think he could take out anybody with enough prep time. Maybe if he had a sneak attack he could take out some pretty powerful people, but there are MANY characters in DC AND Marvel who could monkey stomp his bat-butt. :D

oh please. he's still alive! he's just waiting on Barry Allen to run around the multiverse a little bit and bring him home. i mean come on! if they put together a team to go find the Atom (cause like...really who cares right?) then you know they'll send out help for the Dark Knight!

and look, i'll refer you to...what, about four or five times he's beaten the silly SNOT out of Superman. plus, he ruled Darkseid IN Apocalypse, and he's kicked the beans out of countless other people FAR more powerful than he is. how does he do that do you think? luck? i think not. he's a bad man. he analyzes his enemy, and then takes them apart.

:sigh: Drag me into this...

I have NO problem with Krytonians. I love 'em. I'm just sayin' how can you accept all their ridiculous powers and then debate how one functions?

I was a manager at Barnes & Noble when Micael Crichton's LOST WORLD came out. People were complaining that Ian Malcom was back when he had bled to death at the end of JURASSIC PARK. They were all, he's just back because Jeff Goldbloom made the character so popular in the JURASSIC PARK movie.

I was like, "Let me get this straight.....you have no problem believing that there are not one, but TWO Islands off the coast of South America entirely populated by dinosaurs cloned from prehistoric mosquito stomach contents and frog DNA, but you can't accept that the rescue team in the chopper at the end of the book was able to give a blood transfusion to a just deceased mathematician and hit him with a defribulator?"
:D

Same premise here. Either you've suspended your disbelief, or you haven't. Don't suddenly become armchair physicists with a PHD in Meta-human physiology.:D

All of that aside, Batman wouldn't have put ANYBODY back in the phantom zone, because there is NO Phantom Zone anymore! It went bye-bye, which is why Supes (with some Legionly help) had to rescue Mon-El.

Also, Bats and his Kryptonite ring would QUICKLY discover that Kryptonians WITHOUT Clark's morals have no problem combining TELESCOPIC VISION with HEAT VISION and toasting your @$$ from the moon. It's sure as hell what I would do!:D

And as for the Supes has had years with his powers...So? Have you ever fought 100,000 people just as strong as you and won? Especially when a good chunk of them have had a lifetime of Military training? Sure, he'd lose gloriously, but he'd still lose!!

Oh, and Cary, ya big meanie..Check my attachment from Booste 1 Million!
And writer, Jeff Katz, says that it's Ted! So nyah!

The reason we debate out the finer points is because a lot of the bigger things are established for us. Heres this dude. He's from krypton. He has all these powers. Now we want to know, what are the limits of those powers? how do they work? How is that reflected in the story...

So when that kind of stuff gets ignored, or becomes ambiguous, we talk about it!

If a writer totally ignored that fact that he can fly and had him run up a flight of stairs to get to the roof a building where Lex Luthor has his death ray, but along the way gets sidetracked by a whole sub or divergent plot that he never would have encountered had he flown-- wouldn't you call that out as BS?

Same thing if they ignore how he gets his powers, and how the rest of the kryptonians get theirs.

NYAH!

Hahaha.. but frankly, its the little nuances and catching stuff that gets ignored and whatnot is one of the things that makes the convoluted continuity of comics enjoyable. For me at least.

And... I'm not really sure how the powers function. With all the re-boots, re-vamps, and, of course, crisis (plural)... its hard to keep track.

--

Back to the debate-- The Phantom Zone will have to come back, I don't know what's happening to Mon-El, but remember that he's a member of LoSH, so he'll have to go back into the PZ for another 1000+ years at some point.

YOu're right about the telescopic/heat vision taking out Batman thing. But we're talking about Batman, he'd come up with some way to take them out, even if it meant FAKING HIS OWN DEATH.... hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm

Speaking of other characters involvement.... what about the GLC? How many times has the GLC intervened into matters like this in OTHER space sectors. ITs funny how sometimes 2814 becomes THE MOST IMPORTANT SECTOR EVER (like with the Sinestro War climaxing on earth), and other times its like "Oh yeah, 2814, that backwater sector, who cares?"

Last thing-- it seems that daxamites are mostly human looking, except that they have black where their eyes should be white (note Sodam Yat and fam)-- Why is that not the case with Mon-El?

Cary

on the Mon-El thing...it could have something to do with the lead poisoning...i dunno. i wasn't really paying attention till you mentioned it but you're right. that's weird.

and i do think the GLC is making a HUGE mistake in not getting involved with this NK stuff. i mean seriously. the Kryptionians are some of the most powerful beings in the universe under a yellow sun, wouldn't you take notice of the balance of power shifting so dramatically in such a short amount of time and at least take a looksee? but then they are involved in their own mess with the rainbow lantern saga. *sigh* i want to see how Hal gets his ass out of yet another fall from grace. when's it gonna be enough?

ok now see Seb, Superman HAS tried to use heat vision on Batman in the past, and even burned him if i'm not mistaken, but you know Bats knows about these powers! he's the foremost authority on Kryptonian physiology outside of the geeks at Star labs and i'd say he'd give them a run for their money. he's prepared for that eventuality. think about it. who owns the single largest stockpile of kryptonite on the planet? that would be Wayne Industries. seems to me he'd find a way around em.

and for the record, i HATED Goldblum in Jurrasic Park. hehe i also felt like they made a HUGE mistake in not using the book for the movie the LOST WORLD. come on! how cool visually would a chameleon dinosaur be!!! argh! i hate hollywood.

Wow I don't get on in a few days and I miss the biggest conversation in the history of Comic books. I would like to throw my 2 cents in, Ok here I go.

I do think that Supes is being a little pussy about things. He should be able to defeat a few of them at a time. However Just like in humans some people are stronger than other people so these Kryptonians don't all have the same strength right. Lets say they are all fully charged, Superman could be stronger than some and weaker than others.

Supes is acting like a sissy and don't take this wrong cause everyone knows I'm a HUGE Supes fan but he has always acted like this, this isn't new, he wants people to be good and have amazing morals and principles and he wants them to make that decision for themselves. He won't lose his temper and kill even when it's justified! So the fact that he isn't going to NK and killing Zod and taking over the thrown and ruling NK shouldn't be a big surprise to anyone. I think the guys at DC should come over to Project Fanboy and listen to our ideas, can anybody make that happen?

Well we talked to Dan Didio from DC Comics at MegaCon today about the Project Fanboy Awards, so while he might not actually visit the site, he's at least aware of it. So you never know who's reading the forums.

you know what would totally rock? if the Kingdom Come Superman currently haunting the halls of JSA were to come over to New Krypton and show those punks what's up! i would LOVE to see that! cause if there's one person Alura isn't gonna get away with her mouth with, it's THAT Superman! he'd own the whole bunch of them and have time to get home for dinner at Ma Kent's place!
