Title Envoy 1
Publisher Name: Moonstone Books ( http://moonstonebooks.com )
Writer: Gary Phillips
Art: Sergio Mulko
$3.99, 32 pages, Color
Safety Content Label: MAX: EXPLICIT CONTENT - 18 years old.
Publishers Blurb:
Hitman Louis Trent benefited from a life of dealing in death; the swank digs & the fine honeys were his. Then he stuck his neck out for somebody else & got killed for his effort. His trip to Hell was interrupted, & now he's sent into the world to take out demons & devils, while he
desperately tries to cancel his forced contract with Heaven.
Reviewer Comments:
Part of the Twilight Crusade series, Envoy is somewhat reminiscent of Constantine, except Louis Trent literally beats the crap out of demons and takes orders on whose butt to kick from underlings of the big guy upstairs. Went to hell, didn't like it, came back and kills demons. Simple enough, right? The book has potential for a good run, but I think they rely too heavily on the blurb to give you all the background information you need. Unless I'm missing something, this is the first issue of this title and the groundwork hasn't really been set very well for the story as of yet. Maybe they'll get into more of the history of Trent in the next issue, but only Gary Phillips could tell us that. Gary, care to comment?
Get's the explicit content label because of all the T&A. The art reminds me of late 80's early 90's stuff from Marvel's past. Not bad really, but the paper it was printed on and scanned into the computer probably didn't help matters. I think maybe Moonstone decided to join the "GO GREEN" movement and print their works on recycled paper? Anyway, it was a decent read. Good versus evil with a pissed off escapee from hell who works for God... yeah that sounds about right.
